President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on 23 July 2020 that public schools are closing for four weeks during the Covid-19 peak, with the exception of Grade 12 and Grade 7.

Grade 12 learners are expected to return to school after a week while Grade 7 learners get two weeks off.
