LISTEN: We need to address why more boys repeat grades and drop out of school than girls

Research has shown that boys are more likely than girls to drop out of school. Over the last decade, young men have constituted a declining proportion of those writing matric. For instance, in 2018, for every 100 young women writing matric, there were only 80 young men indicating that boys are dropping out at a higher rate.
