Research has shown that boys are more likely than girls to drop out of school. Over the last decade, young men have constituted a declining proportion of those writing matric. For instance, in 2018, for every 100 young women writing matric, there were only 80 young men indicating that boys are dropping out at a higher rate. Rahima Essop, Head of Communications and Advocacy at the Zero Dropout Campaign, speaks to Cape Talk host Refilwe Moloto about this.
