School dropout is preventable and research has shown that simple solutions can be effective. Late last year the story of Luyanda Kofu was shared. Eight year old Luyanda had been forced to drop out of school owing to his parents’ financial situation. His mother has been unemployed for the past five years and his father lost his job at the start of lockdown. There was also the added complication of a missing birth certificate. However, with the help of a local NGO, National Association of Child Care Workers (NACCW), Luyanda was able to return to school. eNCA contributor, Mpho Lakaje, brings us this follow up success story.
